WHEN CAN you confidently call yourself an “adult?” When fantasizing about the future, you might picture yourself achieving your goals at certain ages. You graduate from college when you are 24 years old, work on your dream job at 25, get married at 29, and so on. Once the “child” inside you wears away, the adult world will present you with all the freedom and opportunities you wished for. Or that is what you thought. Once you reach the determined age, it is easy to think that the future will be laid out for you. However, reaching the adult age does not necessarily mean you reached adulthood. E

THERE ARE some nights when sleeplessness haunts you. You toss and turn in bed, feeling heavy with the anxiety that mightcome from hurting remarks, an unbearable workload or an uncertain future. During such nights, instead of forcing yourself to sleep, step out for a moment and take a look at the night sky above. The cool night air will wrap your body as if to soothe your wounded soul. Then, breathe deeply while leaning against the wall of an alley lit by a lonely streetlamp. As you exhale all the sorrow, anger and unease that has been weighing on your mind, your heart will be filled with peace

CREATED BY a good-hearted carpenter, Geppetto, the wooden doll named Pinocchio had a shameful trait he could not conceal: his nose grew longer whenever he lied. In order to hide the truth, Pinocchio rattled off lie after lie, which eventually snowballed into an irreversible series of false stories. Before he could do anything, his nose grew so long that he could not even raise his head. Throughout life, we experience moments where we feel a strong desire to cover up the truth, whether it is for our own sake or for the sake of others. However, those are the times when we should believe in the p

NOTHING STAYS the same in a changing world. Seasons change, people change, and even memories so strongly imprinted on our minds change, unable to endure the weight of time. Thus, it is inevitable that the unchanging love of the sunflower towards the sun stands out. Its eyes must be sore from the intense light, and its neck stiff from constantly turning its head to keep the sun in sight. With time, the flower withers, failing to bear the ruthless heat. Nevertheless, the sunflower gradually raises its head again and continues to chase its lover high up in the sky. Through its silent yet everlast

WE SOMETIMES look up at the sky and wonder what kind of a world exists above the layers of blue. As we go beyond the coat of clouds, a whole new world of radiance and infinity spreads before us. Flying above the faint landscape gives us a peculiar sense of freedom, which comes from knowing we are far away from earthly matters that confine us. Innumerable limits that press us down seem to fade away as we soar, higher than the sky.

“YOU ARE right and she is also right,” once remarked Hwang Hee, a royal prime minister of the Joseon Dynasty. There are times when values on opposite ends are both right in their own senses. Amongst diverse ethics, it is worthwhile to establish one’s own standards, and it is wisdom that serves as a cornerstone that supports one’s structure of values and virtues.Wisdom can be sought in many places - not only from little screens in one’s hands, but also from books, in which thousands of lives and ideas are condensed. With one flip, one can look into the brilliant minds of history – from Hw

Amidst the rubbish piles in a city slum, standing strong is the horizontal ladder painted yellow and red. The smothering hot air, mixed with ghastly odors of rotting food and decaying animals, freshens up as a boy on the ladder bursts into laughter. He laughs so hard that his face cramps. By laughing, he does not free himself from the troubles in his life; yet, he feels the moment of joy. Laughter is a natural painkiller. Although it does not eradicate the seed of pain, sometimes killing the pain is good enough.

LOCKS OF various colors and sizes adorn the steel bars encircling the terrace. As the sun shines down upon them, the mark of time becomes even more visible as rust. Even though most memories tend to fade away over time, the wishes placed within the locks remain. Each lock has a unique meaning behind it depending on the person or the couple who fastened it. However, many onlookers find them special, as well. Tired of the ever-changing and capricious surroundings, people seem to be enchanted by the stability that the locks can represent. Carrying a myriad of dreams, locks continue to last for an

LIFE IS like crossing a bridge. Every day, one advances to the end of the bridge, to his or her goal in life. Some shall walk, others might ride a bicycle and some might even take a vehicle. However, *by what* or *how* you get there is not of any importance. Sometimes you might sense you are falling behind if you do not progress at the same pace as others. You might feel pressured by the need to catch up, or to go at an equivalent tempo through duplicated means. The crowd you are minding, however, is not the main in your life. They are mere bystanders, and you are the protagonist. Choose your

KING SEJONG the Great felt bad that his subjects could not convey their thoughts through written expression due to widespread illiteracy. FLEETING TIME bequeaths anxiety. We are concerned about a future yet to come. Before we are swept away by the waves of worry, we can take shelter in solitude and melt into silence. In just a second,we will hear the leisurely ticking of the hands of a clock, reticent hum of passing minutes lingering in space, and the tranquil swish of the dancing hours. The moment we listen, the subtle voice of time will comfort and embrace our weary spirits.

Shoes placed gently along the bank, nearly forgotten,a boy finds his place in a middle of the river. In a boy’s hand is a small plastic bottle,he fills it up with water and sand.Girl splashes in and joins the boy,and the water swirls around the two.Small, but they have become the center of their universe. Savoring the tasty summer sun beam, wallowing in the pellucid water, caressing the sand underwater with their toes, the two indulge in their play. The play they do not fathom will soon become a memory.Never to be forgotten or re-experienced,It’s summer.

THE MALLARDS have left for the north. The lake where they once stopped for a sip of water is now left abandoned. The grass they once stood upon is left untrodden.Ending an unwanted privacy, the once shrouded sun has appeared. It shines upon the lake to keep company,And gazes down upon the grass to lend a helping hand. With this vitality, spring is here.

Glance over the city of Seoul from a mountain that once acted as a fortress. Resplendent colors and streams of lights will probably grab your attention the most. How beautiful each of the glimmers are! These glints may seem small, but together, they make up the city, and even the country. These subtle gleams are us:the citizen. As citizens, we light up the city and we make up the country. No matter how small or big of a light you are, no matter how far or near you are, you are a light and you are the country. The fortress built up of stones used to protect our country and its people from extern

Flapping the pure white wings gloriously with an olive branch in its mouth is a dove, a beautiful messenger of peace. However, describing a dove as a “beautiful” bird doesn’t sound quite right these days. Now often called dak-dool-gi, they are often ridiculed as dirty, polluting, and fat pest.Living in the city, pigeons have survived until today by eating leftover food items from humans. No longer needing to run or fly to catch their food, they graciously peck their high-calorie foods off the floor. The result of doing so, is not so gracious as you can see in the photo. Yet, we can’t just laug

Nowadays, there are incredible quantities of makeup products from various cosmetics companies. It is good that you can try different styles with different makeup products. However, as more products come out, it leaves us with more of them to put on our faces. We’ve now reached the point in which many of women feel insecure if even a little bit of their faces is not covered with makeup. The specter of addiction is upon us. We might be addicted already.

For most people, a glass door would be a pathway to their destination, not an obstruction that blocks them from it. However, for those in a wheel chair it takes a lot of effort to get through it, and for those who can’t see well, it is hard to see whether the door is even there. Something that the majority of people take for granted might not always be that way for some others, and here we ought to see, the evidence of discrimination as clear as a glass door.
