▲ Prof. Youh Seuk-ho (Executive Editor of The Yonsei Annals)
THIS YEAR, The Yonsei Annals greets its 42nd anniversary. From its first publication in December 1962 to this day, the Annals has made many improvements. A step made on December 1992, on its 30th anniversary, that led the Annals become Korea's first monthly campus magazine is one of the endless processes of improvement. Along with Yonsei Chunchu and YBS (Yonsei Educational Brodcasting Station), the Annals contributed in introducing our school to readers not only in Korea but abroad as well. This helped to encourage cultural exchange and understanding with foreign readers. In a time when universities' competitiveness and globalization are gaining much attention, the Annals can play an even more important role in heightening Yonsei's International status by using its advantage as an English magazine.

Today, society is changing every instant. The decreasing interest in printed media due to the internet and various visual media pressures the Annals to make new changes in order to keep up with this trend. The Annals must face the reality that it cannot expect the exclusive status it had when english magazines were rare. In order to make the magazine more enjoyable to read, the Annals should try to understand student readers . Moreover, it must meet the expectations of its readers by accurately grasping students' interests and constantly developing news items that show student journalists' traits: originality and creativity. Also, by covering important news on campus every week and posting them on the Internet board of the Annals, it can overcome the limits as a monthly magazine. In the long run, the Annals should put more effort on making an Internet version of the magazine to provide our students with various news promptly, and also easily introduce Korean society, culture, and universities to readers abroad.

Finally, I would like to congratulate the 42nd anniversary of the Annals, and hope the Annals becomes an even better magazine.
