THE CHARMS of some places are seen best during the night. After dark, the light of a full moon on Deoksugung unveils a new kind of dimension. As soon as you enter through lacquered doors, you are welcomed by the lush gardens and the familiar shadows of traditional Korean architecture. It is an isolated island in the middle of the city—the atmosphere and the cool breeze carries you into serenity. As florescent lights illuminate the walls of Daehanmun, Junghwajeon and Jeonggwanheon and the evening sky darkens, the surrounding city slowly seems to fade away, and the boundaries of history and present start to dissolve.
