IT TOOK only 3 days to fill more than 25 plastic bags packed to the brim with disposable bottles, paper, and cans. Single-use waste, usually plastics, contribute greatly to global greenhouse gas emissions. These gases trap and hold heat, which increases the average temperature in the atmosphere. The theme for this year’s Earth Day is climate action, in efforts to prevent global warming. One of the ways to get involved in this enormous challenge is to simply recycle. Though it sounds cliché, recycling can actually reduce the production of disposable waste in the first place. We must remember that Earth Day is more than an annual event; it is a universal mission that can only be succeeded when everybody joins in.
