ANOTHER CAR accident has happened on the streets of Shinchon, and no wonder. Shinchon is notorious for its bad traffic - there are far too many cars and far too many people overcrowding the narrow streets. Although Seodaemun Office has made many efforts in recent times to make Shinchon an area suitable for walking, it's not paying off quite yet as the traffic never seems to cease.

A look inside Yonsei will alert all Yonseians that the situation is not much different on campus. The constant noise of scooters and motorcycles can be heard all throughout the school. Quite ironically, the loud sound of a running motor is especially in close proximity with the Central Library where many students study. However, the problems do not merely end with students frustrated with the loud sounds of these machines. As many parts of Yonsei's campus are not divided into specific paths and roads, students can be found walking alongside cars all the time. Yes, these students are grown up and are classified as young adults who can look after themselves, but the roads of Yonsei are without doubt still a constant danger and a major threat to students' safety.

Although the school has begun to take measures in promoting a car-free environment, it is still in its early stages. Hopefully, the school will manage to produce an ideal plan that will still enable cars to move freely among the buildings without bringing any harm to the students. It is of course, not a role that the school must play alone. It is also up to all Yonseians to abide by the policies and cooperate in making Yonsei a safer place. With Yonsei making developments in road safety on campus, and Seodaemun Office equally implementing its own plans, it can be hoped that safer, calmer and more organized streets will be seen in Shinchon.
