THE COL. of Liberal Arts at Yonsei University is providing open courses on humanities for the general public. The program is scheduled for eight consecutive weeks, starting from October 17 to December 5. The course welcomes all individuals who have interest in the field of humanities, and the class materials will cover various areas such as linguistics, literature, history, and philosophy. Participants must be present in more than seven lectures in order to receive the certificate of completion from the institution.
Jung Myung-kyo (Prof., Dept. of Korean Lit. & Language) expects this program to set a milestone for creating a cultural atmosphere not only on-campus, but throughout the society. “Leading universities such as Yonsei should consider their social responsibility.” says Jung. He asserts that it is Yonsei Univ.’s duty to provide high-quality lectures for the public so that it can share professional knowledge with the community. Jung concluded that as institutions endeavor to interact with the public through such measures like Yonsei does, they will hopefully lead the society into one which prioritizes not only practical values but also traditional values.
