A HOT discussion about the need for the New SA (Student Association) was held in the Col. of Science building on Oct. 7.

Hosted by Saehaksangdeul, the committee for realizing new SA, there was a discussion about the SA. According to a survey of 741 Yonseians from Sept. 21 to Oct. 5, about 35% students replied they had not heard about Joongunwi (the Central Executive Committee of the SA), and 34% not participated in the meeting even though they knew. As a result, it turned out that the SA does not fully reflect the students' opinion well.

Through the discussion, participants came to the conclusion that the basic problem is due to the integration system, since the solidarity between the students gets loose. They also said the SA needs to decentralize the authority to various students.

However, ParkLee Jung-youp (Sr., Dept. of Econ.), who led the discussion on the day, said, "Not only the structural problem but also the way to draw the interest of the students is the matter." Saehaksangdeul held another discussion on Oct. 27, to encourage more participation of the students in reforming the SA. Besides, several students in Saehaksangdeul have constituted a formal organization, "SA renewal F5", to seek for the alternatives. They are planning an election campaign on the upcoming SA presidential election.
