GREETING THE 59th anniversary of the Independence Day of Korea, Aug. 15, 1945, parts of the rallies for reunification were held in Yonsei Univ. from Aug. 13 to 15.

From 13 to 15, there were many events in campus: "The Feast of Youths for Reunification Culture", "The Rally for Reunification Only in South", etc.

Generally, people showed an optimistic reaction to these events. "These events brought an opportunity for young generation to think about the importance of reunification," said Lee Jae-heon (Soph., Dept. of Electrical Engin., Soongsil Univ.).

However, there were some negative aspects about the events. Some parties participated in these events for their own purpose, not for reunification. "The biggest reason I came here was to propagate our labor union's claim," said Choi Yun-ho, who participated on the third day. Besides, the school authorities voted against the rallies. "University is a place for learning, not for assemblies," quoted Hwang Jae-hun (Office of Student Affairs and Services).

However, according to the subject of event, it was unavoidable to hold these  events. "It was a deeply meaningful place for expressing a will to the reunification at home and abroad," said Yoon Ji-hye (Solidarity for Reunification).
