THE WORD hunger holds little significance in much of the world today. Especially in countries such as the United States where food is abundant, obesity rather than starvation has become a critical social issue. In most such developed countries where basic needs are more than met, the struggle to climb up the employment ladder is often the usual source of vexation, rather than the contention to survive. THE ESTABLISHMENT of YonseiInternational Campus (YIC) hasbeen under criticism since itsinfancy. Despite complaints fromparents and students, delays caused by alack of funds, and attacks from IncheonUnion, Yonsei University pushed on withthe construction, and in the year 2011,freshmen belonging to the College ofMedicine, College of Dentistry,Underwood International College,School of Integrated Technology, andOpen Major were placed at the campus. As President Jeong Kap-youngreaffirmed his stance of requiring allincoming freshmen to spend onesemester at YIC in spite of ongoingconstruction, the YIC push is gainingmomentum. In response, the studentscouncils of all colleges petitionedagainst the "agreement on theoperation of YIC," forcing the meetingof Yonsei University and Incheon Cityoriginally scheduled on May 11st to bedelayed indefinitely. Yet considering thehistory of how policies regarding YIChave been dealt with, and Jeong'scontinuous investment in YIC, it seemshighly unlikely that Sinchon Campus willbe welcoming any freshmen on 2013.
