DURING OUR hectic days as university students, we sometimes skip our meals or just make do with instant food. However, “having a good meal” is very important because it brings strength to our daily lives. Then, are we satisfied with our dietary lives? Also, are we satisfied with the meals of our current school restaurants? If not, what should be improved? In this month’s Enquete, The Yonsei Annals conducted a survey on Yonseians’ meals. Number of responses: 5581. Where do you take your classes?A. Yonsei International Campus (YIC): 126 (22.6%)B. Sinchon Campus: 395 (70.8%)C. YIC & Sinchon Campu

THE TIME that professors provide outside of class dedicated for students is called “office hours”. Unfortunately, there are still many students who do not know that office hours exist. For students who know of the professors’ office hours, whether they make use of that time is up to them. Through either making an appointment or seeing the professor at a given time, students can receive various types of help regarding questions they have about their classes, essay ideas or drafts, or even inquiries on internships. While some find the office hours helpful, others do not find them as beneficial.

RECENTLY, THE Ministry of Education has proposed the Program for Industrial Needs-Matched Education (PRIME) program. The initiative, as its full name implies, promises to subsidize those universities that reform their academic structures to produce more students with majors that match the demands of industry. Many universities, in turn, are enforcing large-scale reforms of their academic offerings by closing or merging humanities or arts majors that are considered less advantageous for employment. This trend has raised criticisms that universities are turning virtually into prep schools for jo

“GROW UP!” may not be the most suitable phrase for the marketing business these days. Seeing lucrative opportunity in the new cultural trend among young generations, more and more marketing strategies are specifically targeting *kidult*, which refers to an adult with childish tastes. As the boom in *kidult marketing* reflects the Korean society that is becoming ever more competitive due to stagnant economic growth, *The Yonsei Annals* asked Yonseians about their perception of kidult marketing. Total: 4791. Do you consider yourself a *kidult*?Yes: 260 (54.3%) No: 192 (40.1%)I don’t know: 27 (5.

2015 HAS been a year full of changes and Yonsei University was no exception. The Baekyang-ro renovation hasfinally been completedpresenting to the students a new facade of what had been a mere construction site for the past two years. The new course registration system, the Yonsei Course Enrollment System (Y-CES) that combines three processes- mileage, time ticket and waiting number - was implemented for the first time. Changes do not stop here. The Residential College (RC) program was further strengthened and modified to supplement to the various problems and inconveniences found last year, a

MARKING THE 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule, Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo delivered a statement on Aug. 14. In his statement, Shinzo echoed past leaders’ remorse for Japan’s actions during World War II, but did not offer a new, formal apology of his own. Just one day later, South Korean President Park Geun-hye expressed dissatisfaction with Shinzo’s speech while emphasizing the importance of Korea-Japan relations. From these events, it is evident that Korea and Japan are still struggling to improve their strained relationship

CHILDREN’S DAY, Parents’ day, Teacher’s day, Buddha’s birthday and so on. Surprisingly all these holidays are on the very same, particular month of May. Especially as it has two family related holidays, May is often referred to as Family Month in Korea. As a result, there are many benefits regarding the Family Month, such as family discount services which provide opportunities for everyone to spend more time with their families. However, university students are often thought to have independent lives from their families. Then what about our fellow Yonseians? To see the current relationships be

IN HIGH school, we dreamed of walking along Baekyang-ro elegantly as Yonseians. However, in reality, reading assignments, term papers and exams often seem to be the only things waiting for us. University students have to live up to many expectations as students while engaging in various activities. And if you’re lucky enough to have a boyfriend or girlfriend, 24 hours is not enough. Likewise, there are so many things to do as a college student, yet so little time to complete them. With such lack of time, Hyu-hak , a leave of absence, rose up as an option that students recently consider serious

DO YOU drink? From the first day at university, most freshmen learn to drink. With events like freshmen orientation and membership training (MT) lined up throughout the semester, students are faced with countless situations that encourage them to drink. The drinking phenomenon is especially widespread in Korea where entering university is considered to be a symbol of adulthood. This tacit agreement allows more freedom than the students’ younger years, and unleashes them to the drinking culture that exists among young university students. To drink or not to drink? Almost three-quarters of Yonse

WHERE Do you get your spending money from? Do you receive an allowance, earn your own money, or both? Balancing a part-time job with university life isn't the easiest task, but many choose to do so regardless of the drawbacks.
