WINTER STEALS life from trees, making the landscape gloomy and barren. Nevertheless, one can spot a few splashes of color here and there. From polka dots to flower designs, the trunks of some trees are adorned with colorful recycled cloth and knit patterns. This practice is known as graffiti knitting, and is believed to have started in Texas in 2005. This new type of eco-friendly street art conquered Korea, which had traditionally used rice straws to “warm” the trunks. However, graffiti knitting doesn’t really have much to do with keeping trees “warm and cozy” in the first place and is more of a fashion statement for trees.
