HAVING A good outfit ready is sometimes able to alleviate the pain of early morning preparation for school, especially when we have been restricted from doing so for the past two years. Unfortunately, for some, the transitional Spring has proven to be difficult to dress for. Our reporters recommend fashion items that they have found useful in the past in hopes of helping you navigate your closet or pleasantly challenge you to expand your wardrobe for the long-awaited campus catwalk.

Shin Soo-min (Reporter, Current Issues Div.): Time to Wear a Trench Coat

Although March marks the beginning of spring, the days are still quite chilly. During such transition of seasons, a trench coat is a perfect choice—both warm and fashionable. The trench coat is traditionally known to be double-breasted with 10 front buttons and wide lapels. It is an extremely useful item to keep in your closet; you will naturally find yourself reaching for it when you are unsure how warm or cold the day is going to be. This March is even more special, considering that Yonseians can finally be back on campus for some offline courses. Why don’t you go for a stroll on a beautiful campus, fluttering the lapels of your trench coat?

Aamna Shehzad (Editor, Current Issues Div.): When Spring is Just too Chilly for You

I prefer to keep my outfits cool and casual, so it is no surprise that I gravitate towards hoodies. A colorful hoodie will allow me to be fashionable and comfortable whether I am at home chilling or hanging out with my friends outdoors. While hoodies might strike as more of a Winter item, Spring in Korea is a bit chilly for me. Besides, I generally get cold easily, so I like to keep myself warm with a light hoodie. On a particularly chilly Spring day, you can throw on a coat along with your hoodie. On a warmer day, you can just wear a light zip-up hoodie. Hoodies come in various colors and designs; they can range from simple, monochromatic designs to eye-catching, fun designs. Either way, I definitely recommend you enjoy the first few weeks of March with a comfortable yet stylish hoodie.

Jin Yujin (Reporter, Campus Reporting Div.): An Effortless Classy Outfit

I definitely prefer wearing comfortable outfits later into the semester, but during the first few weeks, I try to look more put together to leave a good first impression. One of my favorite ways to look neat and tidy is to wear a cardigan and pair it with casual blue jeans or slacks for a more formal look. Cardigans go well with almost anything, and they still give you the comfort a hoodie would give you. They are also perfect for the start of the spring season as you can wear a top underneath—layering a thin turtleneck works as well. Cardigans are always a go-to because you can conveniently take them on and off based on how you feel. Since they are mostly lightweight, you can carry them around during the day and wear them when it gets chilly later at night. So, if you have trouble picking out an outfit in the morning, try a cardigan!

Aruzhan Aimanshina (Reporter, Current Issues Div.): In Favor of Denim

I wish Spring in South Korea could be a bit longer since not only is its weather very pleasant but is also the time of the year I get to finally take out my favorite denim jacket and brace myself against the mild breeze. I particularly like the jacket’s oversized fit, especially when it is layered on top of lighter clothing. Aside from my vow to strictly avoid wearing denim on denim, I genuinely believe this item could be a nice addition to any look. Although most of the time I prefer to keep it casual, I am looking forward to try different outfits featuring my denim jacket this spring.

Jena Valtonen-Kim (Reporter, Current Issues Div.): The Handy Bucket Hat

Bucket hats are an essential fashion item for my spring closet. Not only can they easily be paired with any outfit but also effectively protect you from any kind of weather. Especially as the season transitions from Spring to Summer, a bucket hat is a great choice for unpredictable rain or UV (ultraviolet) radiation from sunlight. Furthermore, bucket hats can be worn to hide bad hair days or to survive the tough days when you want to blend in but still look presentable. As a side note, I always get the impression that they are a little bit more interesting than a simple ball cap. I would definitely recommend keeping one of them ready for the upcoming spring season.

Qirrat Ahmad (Reporter, Current Issues Div.): Stylish in a Chilly Afternoon

Whenever it is somewhat chilly in Spring, I always wear my brown leather jacket whenever I go out. A bulky jacket would overheat me and would cause the fashion police to pull me over to probably fine me. As such, as soon as Spring is upon us, I go into the storage and scour to find my leather jacket. It usually takes me three hours to find it because I have too much junk in one space, but it is definitely worth it. Not to toot my own horn, but I also think that the leather jacket makes me look like a fashionista. I feel confident, comfortable, and empowered when I wear it. For the most part, I wear it until Summer arrives, that is when I reluctantly put it back into storage for another year.
