Unintentionally intimidating the passerby

WE HAVE all walked the other way, startled by a flock of unexpectedly large-sized pigeons blocking our path. These red-eyed creatures are among us; sighted in the vicinity of street garbage cans or outdoor food vendors, they are somehow always tirelessly pecking at a suspicious chunk of food. Occasionally, they gaze up, seemingly craving food. Waddling their tail feathers side to side, they approach us with curiosity while we instinctively take a step back. What a shame for pigeons, once an emblem of peace, to be entrenched in our minds as a troublesome, intimidating presence.
