AS SUMMER begins, the chirping birds, rustling leaves, and radiant sun greet people picnicking in the shade. To celebrate the return of warm weather and the lifting of social distancing measures, many families and friends are visiting parks and riverbanks to make the most of summer picnics. Accompanying the rising number of people going on picnics is the aesthetic picnic trend, which focuses on throwing a memorable, picture-perfect picnic. This trend involves the preparation of props like picnic baskets, vintage tableware, flowers, and other such aesthetic Pinterest-esque items and sharing photos of the picture-perfect picnics on social media. Hence, the emergence of picnic setup rental services: instead of going through the hassle of preparing an elaborate picnic themselves, some opt to rent pre-made picnic baskets with all the necessary materials. The services usually include coffee and snacks and cost around ₩25,000 for a four-hour rental period. Though done to capture the perfect picture, the rise of picnics is nonetheless bringing people together and reconnecting them with nature.
