IN CONTRAST to the common notion of libraries as places for strenuous mental work, the Uijeongbu Art Library is a public venue that provides users with a pleasurable experience through the convergence of books and art. Opened on Nov. 29, 2019, it became the first library in Korea to specialize in art. It provides a space that offers accessible knowledge, cultural education, and a relaxing atmosphere. Inspired by the idea that reinventing public spaces is essential to transforming library culture, the library is organically configured, utilizing the concept of “sharing.” The building itself is known for its exquisite design, as it was awarded the Excellence Award for Completed Buildings at the 2020 Korean Architecture and Culture Awards. The floors, connected by central circular staircases, each serve distinct purposes, including exhibition areas and archives devoted to professional art resources. Each area is open and spacious rather than partitioned, thus encouraging natural interaction between users and emphasizing the value of connection[1].
